Mission
A mission team of 50 people from 13 churches in the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association recently traveled to Nickelsville, Va., to participate in the Southwest Virginia Partnership, focusing on Lee and Scott counties. Two days were spent at the Scott County Food Pantry in Gate City, Va., where volunteers sorted and packed bags of food for clients. Team members visited residents at the Ridgecrest Nursing Home in Duffield, Va., distributing tote bags with toiletries. Many volunteers worked with BookNet and visited 11 schools to provide free books, crafts and bags of toiletries.
Recently the woodcutting ministry of Mill Creek Baptist Church in Fincastle, Va., received a stockpile of trees harvested from a campground at the Peaks of Otter. Men from Mill Creek, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service and 40 cadets from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., filled five dump trucks, four pickup trucks and two trailers with wood, which were delivered to the woodcutting area at the church. It will be cut in the fall and delivered to those in need who heat homes with wood.
