Berryville Baptist’s fourth OIAM
Over 80 people ventured into the community on April 20 for Berryville Baptist’s 4th Operation Inasmuch Day. Through a variety of ministry products, participants touched the lives of more than 200 Berryville residents. Pictured at left are participants of a roadside clean-up crew. Among trash collected was a wallet containing a driver’s license that was turned in to the Clarke County sheriff’s office.

50 years of ministry
Calvary Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va., will celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 9 with a special service of worship at 10:30 a.m. Calvary’s first worship service was held on June 2, 1963. Recently a note-burning ceremony was held in recognition of the retirement of the church debt. Current and previous members are invited. A catered lunch will be provided.

Katie Morgan, completing her tenure as minister to children at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, Cary, N.C., on her graduation from Duke Divinity School.

Brooke Holloway, to Memorial Baptist  Church, Arlington, Va., as associate pastor of youth and missions.

David A. Little, to First Baptist Church, South Boston, Va., as minister of children and youth.

Justin Hernandez, to Clemons First Baptist Church, Clemmons, N.C., as minister of youth.

Scot Davis, to Salem Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Va., as full-time minister to families, children and youth. He has served in a similar position at First Baptist Church, Black Mountain, N.C.

Brian and Joan Clabough, to the Baptist Collegiate Ministries at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va., as associate college ministers.

Gayton Baptist breaks ground
Gayton Baptist Church, Henrico, Va., held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 28 to mark the beginning of construction on a new 30,000 sq. ft. outreach center which will feature a full-sized gymnasium, cafe, indoor kid’s play place and a welcome and gathering area. The purpose of the addition is to develop new ministries and expand existing ones, including a preschool, after-school program, summer camp and its annual Jazz Nativity for world hunger. The architect is William Henry Harris and the general contractor is Taylor & Parrish.

DEATH



Homer D. Carter,
a Baptist minister who served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Rockville, Md., for 13 years and served at other churches in the Washington region, died April 29 at the age of 85. After retiring he held several interim posts, including First Baptist Church, Springfield, Va., and Groveton Baptist Church, Alexandria, Va. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Martha Payton Carter. He is survived by three children, Marilyn Carter, Philip Carter and Christy Carter.

retiring as pastor of South­ampton Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.

Karen Willard, retiring as music director of Smithfield (Va.) Baptist Church, effective July 31, following 32 years of ministry there.

No Greater Love
Main Street Baptist Church, Emporia, Va., presented the Easter drama, “No Greater Love,” March 22-23. It followed the life of Jesus Christ from his birth through the resurrection. Pictured above is the cast of the Easter drama.

Aaron Brooks,
ordained to the ministry on May 12 by Yates Baptist Church, Durham, N.C.

Sayward Fletcher, ordained to the ministry on May 5 by Wake Forest (N.C.) Baptist Church.

Krista Mann Manuel, student intern at Tomahawk Baptist Church, Midlothian, Va., was ordained to the ministry by the church on April 2. She is the daughter of Virginia Baptist pastor John Mann and niece of retired pastor Chester Brown.

Dennis K. Myers, coordinator of missions for Southside Baptist Association, ordained to the ministry on May 19 at Oakland Baptist Church, Disputanta, Va.

50 years of ministry
First, Gate City, honors member
Marion Boatright Pendleton was honored by First Baptist Church, Gate City, Va., on April 1 on her 80th anniversary as a member. She has faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, handbell choir member, pianist, WMU, VBS and on many committees. Pastor Andy Barnes presented her a certificate of appreciation and the congregation presented her 80 red roses.

50 years of ministry
Super Senior Sunday
Second Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., honored seniors from ages 90 to 98 on May 5. The congregation has 15 “super senior” members on roll and 11 were in attendance that morning. Pastor Joe Lewis delivered the message on “Aging is no laughing matter.” Seniors were presented with a certificate recognizing their years of faithful Christian service.
