“Hide These Words in Your Heart” is a new exhibit in the Heritage Gallery of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society which allows visitors to follow the history of the Bible.
On display are rare and beautiful examples of authentic leaves from Bibles dating from the 12th century through to the present.
Visitors can learn the rich traditions of hand manuscript Bibles of the Middle Ages, the breakthroughs of the earliest printing presses and the exciting possibilities of modern technology in the area of biblical publication.
Included in the exhibit are Bibles written in Latin, Greek, Hebrew and even Native American. Also available is an exhibit guide written by Mark E. Biddle, professor of Old Testament at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.
The exhibit opens to the public Jan. 5 and will be on view through October 2005. Individuals can visit the Heritage Gallery on most weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Groups must schedule a tour and Vacation Bible School directors especially are urged to make group reservations for the limited tour openings in the summer. Tour reservations can be placed with Elsie Richards or Miriam Whitt at the Virginia Baptist Historical Society by calling (804) 289-8434.
