John Leland Center graduates second largest class in its history

ARLINGTON, Va. — The John Leland Center for Theological Studies graduated the second largest class in its history during commencement exercises earlier this month.

At the Church at Clarendon in Arlington, Va., in which Leland is located, nine students earned master’s degrees and nine others earned diplomas in theological studies from Leland’s School of Ministry. Another 21 students received the Spanish certificate in ministry formation.

Leland students celebrated their new degrees following commencement exercises June 1.

Brent Walker, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, gave the graduation address, while an ensemble from Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Va., led in worship. The graduating class included five students who earned Leland’s newest degree, the master of Christian leadership.

Graduates included:

  • Master of divinity: Barnabus Sewell.
  • Master of theological studies: Melvin Jones, Elizabeth Rice and John Rippy.
  • Master of Christian leadership: Kris Clifford, Valeria Foster, Mary Beth Inman, Gregory Merlo and Ashleigh Wykle.
  • Diploma in theology: Shirley Adams, Juanita Armistead, Jonathan Brooks, Louis Orsatti, Rebeca Pola Orsatti, Susan Prather, Sydney Seho-Ahiable, Sandra Updike Stenger and Winifred Witherspoon–Benson.
  • Spanish certificate in ministry formation: Horacio Acencio, Maria Alvarado, Ricardo Alvarado, Yolanda Cabrera, Luis Carrillo Aguilar, Alejandro Galvan, Erica Galvan, Pablo Gonzalez, Adrian Hernandez, Juan Carlos Hernandez, Eugenio Ibarra, Cristina Margarita Machuca, Keiry L. Martinez Torres, Ernesto Molina, Jorge Robles, Guadalupe Monserrat Rodriguez Cabrera, Daniel Sanchez, Gilberto Sanchez, Ana Zatarain, Bruno Zatarain, Jesús Enrique Zatarain.
