ALEXANDRIA, La. (ABP) — The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Louisiana has hired its first
full-time coordinator.
John Daugherty, pastor of Maple Springs Baptist Church in Louisburg, N.C., will begin Oct. 1 in the coordinator's
position, which combines the part-time coordinator duties with the part-time missions coordinator role.
“We were looking for a combination person — someone who could do everything — not only administration but someone
who could work in the field as our missions person,” said Louisiana moderator Charlene Kelley, according to a CBF news
release. The release also said the search committee is hoping the newly created position will help them “develop a
vision” for more effective work in its Partners in Hope program, the Fellowship's rural poverty initiative working in
the 20 poorest counties in the United States.
The previous Louisiana coordinator, Lynn Hawkins, recently stepped down after the part-time missions coordinator
resigned.
According to the Biblical Recorder of North Carolina, Daugherty said the dual roles appeal to him. He has 20
years of ministerial experience and has spent eight years working with children in foster and group care for
social-service organizations.
“It's the type of work I've dreamed about for a long time,” he said.
Daugherty said his wife, Phyllis, recently completed 30 years as a teacher, making her eligible for retirement. So
“it was just perfect timing.”
