Officials at Baptist-affiliated Louisiana College announced Dec. 8 the school is no longer on probation with its accrediting agency.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges put the school on probation in June 2014 based on the institution’s response to unsolicited information alleging non-compliance with the principle of integrity, governance, personnel and finances during the administration of past President Joe Aguillard, who stepped down amid controversy in May 2014.
Current President Rick Brewer, elected in March 2015, said the last citation removed by the accrediting commission concerned safeguards that the educational institution is free from undue influence by external bodies like the Louisiana Baptist Convention, which elects its board of trustees.
Brewer credited the Louisiana College board of trustees for adopting a new bylaw in September that details how to respond to and report undue external influence.
“My intent is for Louisiana College always to be found in compliance with every accreditation standard,” Brewer said.
