Dan MacMillan has resigned as president of Bluefield College to accept a position at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas.
MacMillan has been president of the the Virginia Baptist-affiliated school in Bluefield for nine years.
In his new position he will direct a doctor of education leadership program in higher and secondary education and serve as special assistant to the president.
“It has been my privilege to have served Bluefield College for the last nine years, and I thank the board of trustees for its support of my administration,” MacMillan said. “The students of Bluefield College are a wonderful group of young people who deserve the very best. The college is poised for a period of growth and expansion, and I am confident a bright future awaits.”
Dan Grabeel, chair of the board of trustees, said, “We will miss Dr. MacMillan as our president and as our friend. He has done a superb job as president. Bluefield College will benefit from his leadership for years to come. Not only will he be missed as president, but as a leader in the community. It will be hard to find another president who will give as much as he did to the school. Our loss will be Dallas Baptist University's gain. We wish Dan and his wife, Sandy, the best in their new endeavor.”
During MacMillan's tenure, the college's fundraising program experienced substantial growth, which has enabled renovation of most buildings on campus.
Grabeel said a search for MacMillan's successor will begin immediately.
