ATLANTA (ABP) — North Carolina pastor Jack Glasgow has been nominated to serve as the next moderator-elect of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
Pastor of Zebulon Baptist Church in Zebulon, N.C., Glasgow is the former moderator of CBF of North Carolina and has served on the Fellowship's national coordinating council.
He will be presented for a vote as moderator-elect during CBF's annual business session June 28-29 in Washington, D.C. Nominations for moderator-elect can also be made from the floor of the assembly.
“Jack Glasgow brings gifts of wisdom, thoughtfulness and experience to the role of moderator,” Joy Yee, the immediate past moderator, said. “He leads with a decision-making ability that considers all aspects involved, is guided by God's Spirit and inclusive of the people who lead with him. He will be an excellent moderator.”
Glasgow has worked at Zebulon Baptist Church since 1977, when he began serving as minister of youth and education. He became senior pastor in 1981. His wife, Barbara, also serves on staff as minister of music and senior adults. They have two children.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to serve our fellowship in this role,” Glasgow said. “The moderators who have served us have been marvelous Christian women and men. It is truly humbling to be asked to join their ranks.”
The moderator-elect's chief responsibility is to preside over the assembly and the Coordinating Council in absence of the moderator. The moderator-elect automatically succeeds the moderator at the conclusion of a one-year term.
Harriet Harral of Fort Worth, Texas, is the current moderator-elect. She will assume the office of moderator on June 29. Nominees for moderator-elect rotate by laity-clergy and by gender. This year's moderator is Emmanuel McCall, an African-American pastor from Georgia.
