The Weekender, the statewide retreat for teenage girls sponsored by Virginia Woman’s Missionary Union, has tapped college-aged girls to serve as mentors to retreat participants this year.
The retreat is still dedicated to missions, spiritual growth and leadership development. However, in addition, this spring college-aged girls will be matched up with the church groups attending. The resulting “family groups” will eat together, sleep together, hang out during free time and do devotions each evening.
The college students have been hand-selected from various colleges and universities across Virginia. In addition to serving as mentors for a “family group,” these young women will teach a series of three Bible studies with a second group of teens. This will give the teenagers personal contact with two college-aged role models.
The collegians understand the impact they can have on the younger girls when their passion and love for Christ are demonstrated in every aspect of their lives. They are taking this responsibility very seriously and approaching the Weekender as a ministry opportunity, trusting God to work in mighty ways.
