RETIREMENT
• Jim Rogers will retire as pastor of Powers Memorial Church, Hopewell, effective June 1.
ORDINATIONS
• Dougie Davis was ordained to the gospel ministry by Glebe Landing Church, Laneview, on April 27.
• W. J. Erps Jr., interim pastor of Buffalo Church, Buffalo Junction, was ordained to the gospel ministry on May 4.
DEATH
• Retired Virginia Baptist minister Kelly Odell Carter of Gate City died April 23. During his 60+ years of ministry he served the following Virginia Baptist churches: First Church, Gate City; Daniel Boone Church, Gate City; Zion Church, Clinchport; and First Church, Dungannon. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Carter; a daughter, Angelene Allen; and a son, Larry Carter.
CHURCH NEWS
• Chatham Heights Church, Martinsville, will hold homecoming on May 25 at 11:00 a.m. Former associate pastor Steve Wood will be guest speaker.
• Children of the World, an international children's choir, will perform at Black Creek Church, Mechanicsville on May 21 at 7 p.m. It is composed of children from different countries who perform in their native tongue and dress, as well as English. The group is touring the U.S. to raise awareness of the plight of homeless and orphaned children all over the world. For directions call the church office at 804-781-0330.
• Burrows Memorial Church, Norfolk, will observe the retirement of its pastor Don Harris on June 1 with a retirement celebration reception following the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Harris has served at Burrows Memorial for 24 years.
• Enon Church, Supply, will celebrate homecoming June 22 at 10:45 a.m.. A meal will follow the service. An afternoon music service by Anthony Campbell. Revival will be June 23-25 at 7:00 p.m.
• First Church at Clarendon, Arlington, will celebrate its 100th anniversary May 17 at 10:45 a.m. Speakers will be Mark Brasler, Tim Townsend, Tyler Townsend and Alan Stanford. A potluck dinner will follow the service.
• Freemason Street Church, Norfolk, will celebrate its 160th anniversary on May 25. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch. A special Anniversary Service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
• Heritage Church, Gate City, will hold revival services May 18-21. Bob Sanders will be guest evangelist.
• Hillcrest Church, Mechanicsville, will celebrate Anniversary Sunday on June 1 at 11:00 a.m. JoAnna Hanks will be guest speaker. A covered-dish luncheon will follow the service.
• Variations, the auditioned touring chamber choir of Bluefield College, will be in concert at Ridge Church, Richmond, on Sat., May 24 at 7:00 p.m. Variations is an 18-voice chamber choir specializing in the most challenging choral literature.
• Talbot Park Church, Norfolk, will celebrate its 65th anniversary on May 18. A picnic will follow the morning service.
RECOGNITION
Pamela Cross celebrated 10 years as Minister of Music at Northside Church, Mechanicsville, on April 20. Pam was presented with a gift from the church by Brenda Strong, personnel chairperson.
