• Jon Reed, resigning as pastor of Blairs Church, Blairs, to accept a pastorate in Tennessee.

• Rupert Rose Jr., resigning as minister of adult education at Second Church, Richmond, effective Oct. 15.

• Brian Norris, to Western Branch Church, Suffolk, as associate pastor of youth and singles.

• Matthew Hensley, now serving as full-time minister of education at Haymarket Church, Haymarket.

• Nikki Tota, to Westover Church, Arlington, as youth pastor.

• Susan Dorner, to Red Lane Church, Powhatan, as ministry director of children and discipleship.

• Brent Miller, to Fork Union Church, Fork Union, as music minister. Ruth Cumbo is serving as church accompanist.

NOTE BURNING

Windsor Baptist Church in Windsor recently held a note burning service in celebration of the retirement of a loan for property adjacent to the church and a weekday educational ministry. ORDINATION

• Jason Bolton, youth pastor at Potomac Crest Church, Woodbridge, was ordained to the gospel ministry in August.

CHURCH NEWS

• Cool Spring Church, Mechanicsville, will host a Southern gospel concert with Soul'd Out from Ohio on Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

• Linden Heights Church, Staunton, is seeking photos of former pastors for homecoming on Oct. 21. Photos needed are of former pastors Wayne Hardy, Thomas D. Toler Jr., Sam Crews, G.D. Danner, James Ware and Andrew Johnson. Call 540-886-1138 or email lhbcsec@verizon. net.

DEATHS

• Sherwood Clay “Skip” Butler Jr. died on Sept. 18 in Richmond at the age of 71. He served as pastor of Reidville, Newville and Antioch churches in Sussex County from 1961-64 and was pastor of Hull's Memorial Church in Fredericksburg from 1964-71. He was a counselor with the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind from 1972 until his retirement. He was a member of Woodland Heights Church, Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Deannie Proctor Butler; two sons, S. Clay Butler III and Paul D. Butler; a grandson, a stepgrandson and sister. Funeral services were held Sept. 20.

• Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Raymond J. “Ray” Cutchin Jr. died July 31 at the age of 88. He served as pastor of Monumental Church, Petersburg, for over 30 years and had served the Petersburg Association in many capacities. Survivors include his wife, Ruth N. Cutchin; son, Jack Cutchin; two grandchildren and a brother. A funeral service was held Aug. 3 at Monumental Church, Petersburg.

A team from Newington Baptist Church took a mission trip to Amazonias, Brazil, July 7-17 to construct a church building in a small village. Pictured far right are members of the team as well as translators, missionaries and local helpers.
