DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (ABP) — For the third time since 2006, First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, Fla., is without a pastor.
Timothy Mann, since 2007 pastor of the prominent church led for 32 years by former Southern Baptist Convention president Bobby Welch, resigned April 26. His predecessor, David Cox, resigned after five months in the role.
"I am thankful to the Lord for the ones who genuinely became followers of Jesus over the past three years, the ministry accomplished that was of value to the Kingdom of God and the lessons learned for future service to him," Mann said in a message on the church website.
In an e-mail to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Mann did not cite a specific reason, but said the decision came after "diligent prayer" and "some time."
Welch retired from the 2,500-member church in 2006 to become strategist for global evangelical relations for the SBC Executive Committee. The position was created after the SBC pulled out of membership of the Baptist World Alliance.
Before coming to First Baptist, Mann was pastor of West Point Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, N.C., for eight years. He is a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta and has served as pastor of churches in Missouri and North Carolina.
