RICHMOND — Church employees within 10 years of retirement begin confronting such questions as:
• What should I do now to make sure I'm financially ready when I retire?
• How much retirement income will I need?
• What retirement benefit options do I have?
• How do I set up my retirement benefits?
• Should I annuitize my account or continue to manage my investments myself?
• Can I keep working and receive my retirement benefits?
• What should I do about Plan A?
• How do I get the minister's tax free housing allowance from my retirement benefit?
• What financial planning issues should I be thinking about as I plan for retirement?
To help answer these questions, GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist General Association of Virginia sponsor an annual series of seminars across the state.
Church staff and their spouses are invited to attend one of these regional retirement planning seminars. All seminars are scheduled for 9 a.m. until noon. Locations are:
• May 13, First Baptist Church, Newport News.
• May 14, Virginia Baptist Resource Center, Richmond.
• May 15, Manassas Baptist Church, Manassas.
• May 16, North Roanoke Baptist Church, Roanoke.
• May 22, Abingdon Baptist Church, Abingdon
Shawn Dorrough, senior relationship manager for GuideStone, and Jeff Cranford, BGAV financial support planning specialist, will lead the seminars. The seminars are provided at no cost through Cooperative Mission gifts.
Church employees age 55 and older who are currently contributing to a GuideStone Church Retirement Plan account will receive an invitation with response card later this spring. Any employee of a Virginia Baptist church is welcome to attend the seminars.
