I await my Religious Herald every week and read it cover to cover. I am a new deacon at Monument Heights Baptist and found “The noose tightens” [Herald, Dec. 9] disturbing. I confess I really don't completely understand the difference between the Southern Baptist Convention and others like the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. I support both equally because they are spreading the word of Christ.
I do not understand how a “convention” can dictate the truth. I believe we are lending ourselves to bylaws and politics that take away from the true goal-winning lives to Christ.
I find myself appalled at how people will section themselves away from the other. In the end, who is right? I believe that both are working toward the same goal, so why allow politics and infighting into it? I am pretty sure he would frown upon it.
I deplore the fact that people use a creation of man to guide them. It is very clear how to lead your life in the Bible, so why are we, mere mortals, bickering about what is so clearly in front of our faces?
To sum up, everyone should take to heart 2 Timothy 4:7. I live every day by it.
