Emmett Dunn, director of the Baptist World Alliance Youth Department since 1994, has resigned to return to work as a full-time pastor, the global Baptist body based in Falls Church, Va., announced April 21.
Dunn, who since 2006 has also been responsible for planning all BWA international gatherings, such as the 21st Baptist World Congress held July 2015 in Durban, South Africa, said he believes God is leading him to become full-time pastor of West Hyattsville Baptist Church in Hyattsville, Md., a position he has held bi-vocationally since April 2014.
Founded by young people attending the third Baptist World Congress in Stockholm, Sweden, as the World Baptist Young People’s Union in 1923, the BWA Youth Department is one of six major departments in the day-to-day work of the fellowship of 228 Baptist unions and conventions comprising a membership of more than 42 million baptized believers and a community of more than 110 million Baptists around the world.
Dunn’s resignation, effective July 31, is the second this year. Rothangliani Rema Chhangte resigned March 16 after three-and-a-half years as director of Baptist World Aid.
