Central Baptist Theological Seminary recently got approval from the Association of Theological Schools to offer the full master-of-divinity degree online.
Robert Johnson, the seminary’s dean and provost, said in a March 30 press release that ATS approval means a student can now take any single course or entire degree from a location with access to a broadband Internet connection anywhere in the world as long as there are no legal restrictions.
ATS executive director Daniel Aleshire said the agency has only been approving online M.Div. programs the last couple of years, but with the advent of higher bandwidths, Internet access to theology libraries and meaningful online interaction through social media, potential exists that wasn’t around even a few years ago.
