NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Interstate 81 is a well-traveled route this summer as Virginia Baptists take to the road to provide ministries through the Southwest Virginia Partnership. Tony and Jan Johnson, onsite coordinators, report every week that in the partnership’s second summer is filled with teams from around the state. And there are many jobs to be done.
The partnership between Clinch Valley, Powell River and Wise Baptist associations and the Virginia Baptist Mission Board emphasizes mission projects in Lee, Scott and Wise counties. The Johnsons are Virginia Baptist Venturers serving in Nickelsville, Va., during the partnership to match requests from associations and churches to the skills of volunteer mission teams coming.
While many projects requested are construction-related, there are opportunities for evangelism and social ministry projects. Three weeks of Vacation Bible School will be led by teams this summer, says Jan Johnson, and volunteers serve at the food bank and visit nursing homes to interact with residents.
The partnership has a volunteer housing facility with room for 56 volunteers and a full kitchen. For more information, contact 276.479.3333.
