DALLAS (ABP) — Randel Everett, who has served as executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas for three years, has announced he will preach Dec. 5 at First Baptist Church in Midland, Texas, "in view of a call as senior pastor." He has been the church's interim pastor for several months.
Everett made the announcement in an e-mail message to the Baptist Standard and other Texas Baptist leaders Nov. 21.
"We never seriously considered this possibility until the last few weeks, but during this time Sheila and I both came to realize we should be open to this possibility of service," he said.
Everett said the final decision will not be made until after the church votes on the recommendation Dec. 5.
"I can think of no greater honor than serving as executive director of Texas Baptists these past three years," he wrtoe. "I am totally convinced that the BGCT is healthy and moving in the right direction."
