Can you hear it? It’s thunder rolling through the hills and valleys of central Virginia. Virginia Baptist motorcycle riders and their friends will gather Oct. 4-6 at Watermarks Camp in Scottsville, Va., for the 2013 edition of Thunder in the Hills.
The gathering continues a tradition begun four years ago by Randy Ashcraft. Although the first three events were held at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center in Lynchburg, this year’s event will be held at Scottsville’s Watermarks Camp. Participants will be greeted by the camp’s owners Travis and Angie Critzer who are fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.
As in years past, plans are to ride, hangout, eat, play and worship. Those who have participated in prior “thunders” will look forward to a weekend of fun and fellowship with folks who share a passion for motorcycles.
Although Ashcraft has passed the reins of responsibility to others this year, they look forward to continuing the tradition. They are pleased to announce that once again the Alexandria motor officer unit will be on hand to provide a demonstration of riding skills. In previous years this has been one of the highlights.
In addition to riding, a cornhole tourney, a game night for charity and “lots of fun” are being planned. The charities benefitting from this year’s ride will be both the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department and “More than Nets,” the Baptist General Association of Virginia’s plan to eradicate malaria and start churches in Ghana.
Registration for the weekend event is $115 and participants are encouraged to bring a friend. Registration is being handled by Watermarks Camp. They may be reached at 434.286.4403. Call Kevin James at 804.513.9832 with questions or suggestions.
