RICHMOND — The Virginia Baptist Foundation has awarded scholarships totaling $91,500 to 46 students affiliated with Baptist General Association of Virginia churches.
During its sixth annual recognition ceremony May 19, the foundation presented the scholarships to the students, representing 49 academic institutions — both public and private — and 30 of the 42 district associations partnering with the BGAV. The recipients were chosen from a pool of more than 102 applicants.
“These recipients carry an average grade point average of 3.81. In fact, nearly half of them have a G.P.A. of 4.0 or better,” said Ron Hall, foundation president and CEO. “Not only are they academic scholars, but they are engaged in a host of school, community and church ministries or activities. They inspire us! It is exciting to see what God is doing through another generation of Virginia Baptists.”
Bob Smythers, chair of the foundation’s scholarship committee, said, “We are thankful for our gracious donors who entrust VBF with their philanthropic gifts. Their support makes our scholarship program a tremendous success.”
