Virginia Baptist Foundation grants scholarships to 51

NewsJim White  |  July 5, 2010

RICHMOND — The Virginia Baptist Foundation awarded 51 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students May 23, totaling $112,860.

The recpients were honored at a reception that day at the Virginia Baptist Resource Center, hosted by the Foundation’s scholarship committee.

The Virginia Baptist Foundation’s scholarship recipients gather in the courtyard of the Virginia Baptist Resource Center.

“It was a joy and an inspiration for the committee to read the applications and learn about our Virginia Baptist students,” said Ann Brown, chair of the scholarship committee. “We were moved by their accomplishments, the obstacles they have overcome, and their plans for the future. It was a special blessing at the reception to see the recipients meet the donors and thank them for their support, and for the donors to meet the students who have been impacted by their gifts.”

Ron Hall, president of the Foundation said, “The Foundation has experienced exponential growth in both the awareness and impact of our scholarship ministry in recent years. The recipients were chosen from a pool of approximately 140 applicants, who represent 94 Baptist General Association of Virginia churches and 33 of her 42 associations, and who have an average grade point average of 3.7.

“In addition to their stellar academic records, the recipients are actively engaged in church youth groups and missions, school athletic teams, choirs, student government organizations and other activities, collegiate ministries, seminary immersion programs, church staff ministry positions and national and international humanitarian efforts.  We are thankful for these young people and their Christian service.”
