The Virginia Baptist Mission Board's disaster relief ministries are on alert for potential tropical storms, says Terry Raines, the board's disaster relief coordinator.
Tropical Storm Gustav is expected to return to hurricane status and make landfall somewhere on the Gulf between Mexico and Florida. VBMB disaster relief units will respond following Gustav if assistance is needed and requested by the disaster relief coordinators of the affected state Baptist conventions.
In the Atlantic, long-range projections show Tropical Storm Hanna has the potential for affecting the U.S. East Coast. If this path continues, disaster relief units may be placed on alert for response on the East Coast, possibly within Virginia.
