CULPEPER — The Supreme Court of Virginia will hear the appeal of Virginia Baptist Homes in its case related to the suit brought against it by Botetourt County for the payment of property taxes on The Glebe, the Homes' newest retirement community near Roanoke.
The Glebe is a faith-based 501(c)3 continuing care retirement community located in Daleville and operated by Virginia Baptist Homes, a partner with the Baptist General Association of Virginia.
According to Randall Robinson, president of Virginia Baptist Homes, Richmond attorneys have reported that Virginia Baptist Homes must file their written communication (or opening brief) to the court by April 8. Oral arguments before the court will be scheduled by the court's clerk and placed on the docket, perhaps by the end of 2008.
“I want to express appreciation for the support that Virginia Baptist Homes/The Glebe have received as we have continued this defense of our legislative tax exemption for The Glebe. Our historical mission and religious and benevolent purpose have sustained us in this challenge, and we will continue to tell our story of 60 years of service and ministry to seniors across Virginia,” said Robinson.
