Visible Words, Robert W. Jenson (Fortress)
Originally written over 30 years ago, Jenson’s interpretation of Christian sacraments has become a classic. In this new edition, Jenson reiterates his belief that the sacraments are physical (and bodily) encounters, where the Word of God comes present to us. Jenson seeks, in uncluttered terms, to plainly present what the sacraments are and how Christians engage them.
The Kingdom New Testament, N.T. Wright (HarperOne)
As he wrote his New Testament commentary, Wright crafted his own translation along the way. Now, the entire work has been collected in one volume. Wright’s readable text serves as a refreshing, helpful way to re-hear familiar narratives.
A Walk Across the Sun, Corban Addison (Sterling)
This novel is gaining wide acclaim. It’s the first debut novel John Grisham has ever endorsed, and Oprah pushed it in O Magazine. Set in India, A Walk Across the Sun tells the story of two young girls who are kidnapped and funneled into the dark world of human trafficking. Addison tells a good story, but he also alerts us to the tragically present evil of modern slavery.
