Ala. minister’s wife slain in home
Police in Birmingham, Ala., are investigating the apparent murder of the wife of a staff member at the city’s First Baptist Church.

An Alabama Baptist minister’s wife was found dead in her home July 23 in a case that police regard an apparent homicide.
Karen Louise Shahan, 52, was discovered at about 11:15 a.m. on the couch of her home in Homewood, Ala. Media report that co-workers became concerned when she didn’t show up for her job at Hobby Lobby.
Her husband, Richard Shahan, is listed as children and families pastor and facilities director on the staff webpage at First Baptist Church in Birmingham. He was reportedly out of town visiting family when his wife’s body was found.
Shahan joined the First Baptist staff in 2009. He served previously at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham and other churches in Alabama, North Carolina and Texas.
