STAFF CHANGES

Paul R. “Trey” Gilliam III, to First Baptist Church, Ahoskie, N.C., as pastor, effective Aug. 4. He has served as interim since February and is associate professor of religion at Chowan University, Murfreesboro, N.C.

Lois Graham, concluding her tenure as communications director at First Baptist Church, Decatur, Ga.

Dane Jackson, to Providence Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C., as minister with students and their families, effective Aug. 15. He comes from Second Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., where he serves as minister of students.

Tyler Johnson, to First Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Ky., as associate pastor.

Esther Kim, to First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Ala., as associate minister of music and organist.

Mark McClintock, to Speedway (Ind.) Baptist Church, as senior pastor.

Cameron Reed, to First Baptist Church, St. Marys, Ga., as student minister.

Jim Rivers, to Garden City Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va., as interim pastor.

Mary Hunter Rouse, to Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta, Ga., as preschool director.

Ronnie Brewer, retiring as pastor of First Baptist Church, Bristol, Va., effective Oct. 1.

Rodney Vincent, retiring as minister of education and administration at First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Ky.

ORDINATION

Meghan Alexander Beddingfield, ordained to ministry on July 16 by Memorial Baptist Church, Buies Creek, N.C.

DEATHS

Charlie Worden Fenner, 87, died June 28 in Dallas. He was music director for First Baptist Church, Allen, Okla., and then assistant to the pastor of First Baptist Church, Dangerfield, Texas. He and his wife, Joy, were missionaries to Japan with the Southern Baptist Convention’s Foreign (now International) Mission Board until 1980. He is survived by his wife.

Marvin F. Kerby Jr., 86, died July 11 in West Point, Va. He served a field of five churches upon completion of seminary. He then was pastor of Vesuvius (Va.) Baptist Church for 10 years, followed by 31 years as pastor of First Baptist Church, West Point. Upon retirement he was named pastor emeritus. He served numerous churches as interim pastor. He was very active in the community, having served on the West Point Town Council for 18 years and West Point School Board for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children, Joyce Sweet, Wayne Kerby, Rick Kerby and Lori Kerby; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Stephen “Steve” Turner, 57, died June 25 in Roanoke, Va. He served as pastor of many rural churches across Virginia for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughters, Heather Turner and Lauryn Martinez; and two grandchildren.

American Baptist Home Mission Societies. Culminating a four-year, collaborative process that considered location issues related to offices of the American Baptist Churches’ national partners, ABHS has purchased a building at 1075 First Avenue in King of Prussia, Pa. Required renovations are expected to be completed within the first six months of 2018.
