STAFF CHANGES

Briana Ayala, to Centerpoint Community Church, Salem, N.H., as worship leader.

Anyra Cano, to Texas Baptist Women in Ministry, as coordinator. She is youth minister at Iglesia Bautista Victoria en Cristo in Fort Worth and academic coordinator for the Christian Latina Leadership Institute at Baptist University of the Americas.

Joanna Capps, to Benson (N.C.) Baptist Church, as minister of children and youth.

Zach Collier, now serving as interim lead pastor at Community Heights Baptist Church, Cedar Bluff, Va.

Travis Garcia, to Southland Baptist Church, San Angelo, Texas, as minister to students.

Gil Gulick, to First Baptist Church, Silver Spring Md., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Stantonsburg, N.C.

Basil Hall, to Lexington Avenue Baptist Church, Danville, Ky., as pastor, effective Sept. 10. He comes from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Nicholasville, Ky., where he was lead pastor.

Blake Hart, to Carolina Immigrant Alliance, as executive director, effective Sept. 20. He was missions coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of South Carolina.

Brett Holmes, to Azalea Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va., as pastor.

Chris Jordan, to Plainfield (N.H.) Community Church, as pastor.

Clyde McCammack, to First Baptist Church, Franklin, Ohio, as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of Acton Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Ind.

Drew Page, now serving as interim pastor of Courtland (Va.) Baptist Church.

Leah Anderson Reed, to First Baptist Church, Raleigh, N.C., as minister with community.

Duane Roth, to First Baptist Church, Austin, Texas, as interim music minister.

Stephen Sanden, to First Baptist Church, Abington, Mass., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Penn Yan, N.Y.

 

RETIREMENT

Mike Lassiter, retiring after nearly 30 years as associate pastor for community care and missions at Second Baptist Church, Liberty, Mo.

 

 

ORDINATIONS

Marc Boswell, ordained to ministry on Sept. 9 by Church for the Highlands, Shreveport, La.

Seth Brown, ordained to ministry by First Baptist Church, Griffin, Ga., on Sept. 9.

Brandon Long, ordained to ministry on Sept. 3 by Grace Point Baptist Church, Kansas City, Mo.

Fran Pratt, ordained to ministry on Sept 2 by Peace of Christ Church, Round Rock, Texas, where she serves as pastor of worship and liturgy.

 

DEATHS

J.B. Fowler, 88, died Aug. 21 in San Antonio, Texas. He served numerous pastorates in Texas, and for 13 years, was editor of the Baptist New Mexican. He was named editor emeritus when he retired. He had served terms as president of the Southern Baptist Press Association, a director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board, and a trustee of Howard Payne University and William Carey College. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lee. He is survived by sons, Bruce and David; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Virginia G. Neely, 90, died Aug 30 in Oxford, N.C. For 52 years she served alongside her husband, Alliance of Baptists founder Alan Neely, in missions and ministry, both at home and abroad. She was author and editor of several books and publications. She is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by three children, Jennifer, Elizabeth (Betsie) and Roger; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

KUDOS

Wesley Babian, honored as pastor emeritus at First Baptist Church, Springfield, Ohio, where he served for 19 years.

ANNIVERSARIES

Gary Furr, 25 years as pastor of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala.

Ed Rollins, 30 years as associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Columbia, Mo.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARIES

Clarksville (Va.) Baptist Church; 200 years; Sept. 16.
