Terri Byrd has been elected as full-time coordinator of the Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, effective Dec. 1.
Byrd, an ordained minister, is the fourth person to lead the statewide network of about 30 churches, and the first woman in the post. Since 2009, she has served Alabama CBF as associate coordinator for missions and congregational life and as interim coordinator since her former boss, Ronnie Brewer, left in July to become pastor of First Baptist Church of Bristol, Va.
“Terri believes in our mission, meets everyone as a friend and colleague, and has exhibited leadership skills during this interim time which give us confidence that she will do a wonderful job,” said Gary Furr, Alabama CBF moderator and search committee chair. “My assessment is that Terri, with our support and voted confidence in her, will soar as a leader.”
Byrd is a graduate of Mercer University who received a master’s degree in theology from Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School. She has served on church staff positions as coordinator of contemporary worship at Bayshore Baptist Church in Tampa, Fla.; student ministry intern at Riverchase Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala.; and minister to students at Helena United Methodist Church in Helena, Ala.
She recently served as interim pastor at Crosscreek Baptist Church in Pelham, Ala.
She is married to Paul Byrd, also an ordained minister and pediatric chaplain at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. They have two children, Turner and Evann, both college students.
