Book sale raises funds for ESL. Lakewood Manor in Richmond, Va., one of the Virginia Baptist Homes’ four retirement centers, raised $1,650 during its fifth annual book sale March 9-10. Proceeds from the sale of more than 3,000 books, DVDs and VHS tapes will be given to the Virginia Baptist Mission Board to fund local English as a Second Language programs. “These funds will assist individuals to become more rooted in their new life in America and to help them adapt and succeed as they begin new journeys in Virginia,” said Dean Miller, Virginia missions coordinator for the Mission Board.
Bluefield’s vocal ensembles on tour. Two of Bluefield College’s select voice ensembles, Variations and Praise Singers, will embark on a six-day, 11-event tour, March 27 through April 1, to churches, Christian schools and other sites across Virginia. Variations is known for its wide variety of sacred choral music, including spirituals, hymn arrangements and classical selections. Praise Singers, comprised of six vocalists and a band, specializes in contemporary Christian music, including praise and worship.
