• The John Leland Center for Theological Studies will hold an open house on Tuesday, March 1, from 6:45-8:30 p.m. at the Baptist World Alliance building, 405 North Washington St., in Falls Church. DEATHS
• Isla Rogers Boyd, wife of former Virginia Baptist pastor Ernest J. Boyd, died Jan. 23 in Richmond. She is survived by three children, Pat, Mike and Dale Boyd. A celebration of life service was held Jan. 26 at Winfree Memorial Church, Midlothian.
• Retired Virginia Baptist minister Carl A. Collins Jr. of Daleville died Jan. 15 at the age of 95. He was a former vice president of the Baptist General Association of Virginia and member of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. He served as trustee of the Virginia Baptist Children’s Home, Oak Hill Academy and the Chaplains Service of Churches in Virginia. He had served as moderator of Lynchburg and Roanoke Valley associations. In 1982 he and his wife, Mildred, were invited by the Foreign Mission Board [now International] to participate in one of the first volunteer partnership evangelism crusades in Indonesia and later another to Japan. During his ministry, he was involved in 25 voluntary missions trips overseas. He served as pastor of the Evergreen field of churches in Appomattox County; Oakwood Avenue in Richmond; Tabernacle Church in Salem; Beulah Church in Lynchburg; Marion Church, Marion; Liberty in Appomattox; and Catawba Valley Church, Catawba. He is predeceased by his wife, Mildred Conner Collins; and two sons, Carlton Douglas and Dwight Curtis Collins. He is survived by two granddaughters. A funeral service was held Jan. 19 in Roanoke.
• Beverly Marshall McCann, wife of Virginia pastor Thomas R. McCann, died Jan. 15 in Richmond. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Mary Frances Marshall; a daughter, Jane McCann; two sons, Thomas Scott and Stephen Kirk McCann; two sisters and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held Jan. 19 at Winfree Memorial Church, Midlothian.
• Donald Kenneth Roberts, director of missions for Accomack/Northampton Baptist Association, died Jan. 16 at the age of 76. He had served as pastor of Zion Church, Parksley, for 12 years as well as other churches in Virginia and Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hendricks Roberts; a son, Kenneth Roberts; a daughter, Kimberly Antonini; a sister and brother; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service was held Jan. 20 at Onancock Church, Onancock.
• Andrew Wellington Todd died Jan. 19 in Chatham at the age of 93. He served on the faculty of Hargrave Military Academy from 1946 until his retirement in 1991. He served in numerous capacities including interim president for the academy. He was an active member of Chatham Baptist Church, Chatham, and had served as moderator of Pittsylvania Association. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Tune Davis Todd; one daughter, Susan Todd Pearson; a son, Stuart Andrew Todd; three grandchildren. A funeral service was held Jan. 22 in the chapel of Hargrave Military Academy.
