BGAV president names committee chairs for 2012

RICHMOND, Va. — David Washburn, pastor of First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Va., has been named chair of the Baptist General Association of Virginia’s budget committee for 2012.

The appointment was one of 10 committee chairs named by BGAV president Mark Croston and announced Dec. 15. All appointments are for one-year terms.

The 13-member budget committee will develop a proposed BGAV budget for 2013 and present it for consideration at the BGAV’s annual meeting Nov. 13-14, 2012, in Roanoke, Va.

Other committee chairs named by Croston are:

  • Roger McGee, pastor of music and worship at First Baptist Church, Alexandria, Va., to the program committee, which prepares the order of business for the BGAV’s annual meeting.
  • Emily Carlton, a homemaker and member of Downtown Baptist Church, Alexandria, to the committee on boards and committees, which nominates persons to serve on BGAV committees and as trustees of some partner agencies.
  • Bert Browning, pastor of Huguenot Road Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., to the resolutions committee, which recommends resolutions to the BGAV annual meeting.
  • Michael Jordan, pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Axton, Va., to the credentials committee, which oversees registration and status of messengers attending the annual BGAV meeting.
  • Ralph Duke, pastor of Beacon Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Herndon, Va., to the tellers committee, which tallies votes at the annual BGAV meeting.
  • Todd Combee, pastor of New Bethesda Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, Va., to the committee on scholarships and ministerial education funds, which oversees granting of financial assistance for the educational development of emerging leaders and persons preparing for Baptist ministry.
  • Melissa Holt, executive assistant to the senior pastor at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Herndon, to the Christian life committee, which studies and prepares a report on issues related to ethics and Christian discipleship.
  • Jack Garland, pastor of Riverside Baptist Church, Chilhowie, Va., to the memorial committee, which prepares biographical data on deceased Baptist leaders and conducts a memorial service at annual BGAV meetings.
  • Steve Aycock, executive director of the Fredericksburg (Va.) Baptist Association, to the religious liberty committee, which reports annually to the BGAV on the state of religious freedom and the separation of church and state.
