RICHMOND — Lakewood Manor has given doses of the H1N1 vaccine to members of two Baptist churches in Richmond.
After those organizations who serve people in high risk categories were able to access the vaccine, health organizations like Lakewood were supplied with doses to administer to residents, staff and others.
Lakewood Manor is one of Virginia Baptist Homes’ retirement communities.
“Lakewood was so fortunate to receive the vaccine. After we administered the vaccine to our residents and staff, we were thrilled that we had additional doses to share with the community,” said Lynn Feria, wellness clinic director for Lakewood Manor.
Lakewood hosted three clinics at First Baptist Church and River Road Church, Baptist. The first clinic was at First Baptist Church for those who are a part of their homeless ministry. The church provides food, clothing, showers, and employment counseling for many homeless people. Lakewood was able to vaccinate 50 people who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to have the H1N1 vaccine.
Lakewood also gave the vaccine to members of First Baptist before their Wednesday night dinner. Snowy weather delayed the clinic at River Road Church, which rescheduled to a later Sunday.
“These two churches give so much to our residents by providing transportation to services and having their ministers regularly visit them at Lakewood. So we were delighted to serve their ministries in return,” said a Lakewood administrator.
