Camp Alkulana, a ministry of the Richmond Baptist Association, has been awarded a $25,000 matching grant by the Mary Morton Parsons Foundation, a Richmond family foundation.
The grant was offered as a challenge to alumni and friends of Camp Alkulana to raise a matching $25,000. The purpose of the grant is to help pay for the expansion of the camp’s dining and multi-purpose building.
Although Camp Alkulana is located in Bath County, the children who benefit from the camp are from Richmond’s inner city. Since its founding in 1915, the camp’s mission has been the same: to provide wholesome and challenging experiences in an atmosphere that helps children to realize God’s love for them.
Although the grant has been matched, donations are still encouraged toward the building project, as the cost of the project will exceed $85,000. Any monies received over and above the cost of the project will be put into a scholarship fund to assist former Alkulana campers with college education or vocational training.
