A gifted pastor and a professor were enlisted this year to address the Evangelical Forum.
Using Romans 11:33 as his focal passage, Andrew Davis, pastor of First Baptist Church in Durham, N.C., modeled doctrinal preaching in delivering an expository sermon on the verse, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”
Thomas Nettles, professor of historical theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, led afternoon and evening sessions providing an overview of the significance of doctrinal preaching in the pastor's ministry.
The fifth annual Forum, traditionally held at the same time as the BGAV pastors conference, met at Green Run Baptist Church, an SBCV congregation in Virginia Beach. About 60 persons, including a dozen children, gathered Nov 8.
