Alma Hunt is featured in the new issue of Heritage Seekers, the magazine for children and families published by the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies. The theme of the issue is Women in Leadership.
The new issue also tells the story of Catherine Allen, who has been instrumental in the founding of Global Women. Children will read the story of Miss Alma's childhood and learn of her leadership in Woman's Missionary Union, SBC. The issue is a foundation for children as they learn about the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions.
Heritage Seekers magazine is designed for children in third through sixth grades and their parents. Each issue focuses on one Baptist principle through the stories of historical and contemporary Baptists. Children encounter the rich Baptist heritage that preceded them while learning how they can leave their own heritage for future generations. Each issue is written by a professional children's educator. The issue on Miss Alma was written by two children's curriculum writers, Barbara Booth and Jennifer Law.
Heritage Seekers includes a family guide with each issue. Each issue features a different historical figure and important principle or theme. Single issues are $7, including shipping. Individuals also can subscribe for $20 a year, which includes four issues. Churches can order bulk subscriptions. Back issues can be purchased for $7, including shipping and include Nannie Helen Burroughs (Working Together), William Carey (Reaching Out to Others), Lott Cary (Developing Leadership), Lottie Moon (Personal Commitment), Anabaptists (Showing Courage) and Sam Houston (Spirit of Individualism). The premier issue told the story of James Ireland and Religious Liberty. For further information visit www.heritageseekers.org.
Churches can teach heritage using this resource. Some are creating heritage clubs while others are using the magazine as part of their mission program. Contact Jon Messer, education coordinator for the Center, for more information.
