RICHMOND — A 10-member committee to study the structure of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board’s governing board was named Jan. 8.
Carl Johnson, the Mission Board’s chair who also serves as president of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, unveiled members of the committee at a meeting of the Mission Board’s executive committee. The committee had authorized the study committee last fall.
Jim Baucom, pastor of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Va., will chair the committee. Other members are Don Davidson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Alexnadria, Va., who will serve as vice chair; Steve Allsbrook, executive director of missions of the Dover Baptist Association; Pat Bloxom, a former president of Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia; Anne Brown, immediate past WMUV president; Dan Carlton, pastor of Downtown Baptist Church in Alexandria; Mark Croston, pastor of East End Baptist Church in Suffolk, Va., and immediate past president of the BGAV; Darrell Foster, a former BGAV president; and Tommy McDearis, pastor of Blacksburg (Va.) Baptist Church and current BGAV first vice president. Johnson also will serve on the panel.
Four others will serve as non-voting members: John Upton, BGAV executive director; Eddie Stratton, BGAV treasurer; Dick Bidwell, BGAV parliamentarian; and Glenn Akins, BGAV assistant executive director.
Johnson, who was elected to both the BGAV and VBMB positions last fall, also named the chairs of BGAV standing committees, including:
- David Washburn of Waynesboro, Va., budget committee;
- Emily Carlton of Alexandria, Va., committee on boards and committees;
- Paul Honaker of Richmond, program committee;
- Cindy Galyen of Culpeper, Va., resolutions committee;
- Wayne Wyatt of Leesburg, Va., Christian life committee;
- Steve Aycock of Fredericksburg, Va., religious liberty committee;
- Todd Combee of Mechancisville, Va., committee on scholarships and ministerial education funds;
- David Peppler of Powhatan, Va., memorial commit-tee;
- John Miller of Mineral, Va., credentials committee;
- Wayne Collis of Gordonsville, tellers committee.
