Laura Loomer doesn’t work for the government, but the right-wing social media star has President Donald Trump’s ear, and she has used her influence to have more than a dozen top administration officials fired, possibly endangering Americans’ national security and personal health.
In April, Trump fired Gen. Timothy Hogg, head of the National Security Agency and Cyber Command, after Loomer called him disloyal during an Oval Office meeting.
In May, Trump withdrew his nominee to serve as U.S. surgeon general the day before her Senate confirmation hearing, thanks to Loomer.
Now, Loomer is gunning for Army Secretary and Medal of Honor winner Dan Driscoll. Driscoll won his medal by tackling a suicide bomber. His actions saved other soldiers’ lives but his injuries required 33 surgeries. Loomer now says this soldier is disloyal to Trump. His alleged sins include giving a brief talk at the Democratic National Convention and having been born in France.
The Loomer “body count” currently numbers 16 fired workers, reports The Daily Beast.
Trump says Loomer’s recommendations are “usually very constructive,” but critics say the firings of officials — and Loomer’s continuing access to the president — will make Americans less safe and less healthy while increasing an aura of fear and intimidation within the administration.
Loomer, 32 years old and Jewish, describes herself as an “investigative journalist, activist and pathological truth-teller.” Her social media fame comes from a decade of attention-getting falsehoods and controversies that led to her banishment from numerous platforms.
She claims she is the “MOST BANNED WOMAN IN THE WORLD” and calls it being “Loomered.” She’s written a book called Loomered and claims the word is “a term now in relatively common usage and hopefully someday in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.”
Trump wanted to hire her for his 2024 campaign. Aides prevented that, but she traveled with Trump during the campaign, including controversial visits to New York and Pennsylvania to commemorate the 9/11 attacks. Loomer previously called the 9/11 attacks “an inside job.”
Loomer’s “journalism” experience is with far-right activist outlets including InfoWars, whose founder, Alex Jones, has been fined $1 billion for repeatedly claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax) and Project Veritas (which used secretly recorded videos to incriminate liberal foes).
These are some of her most famous conspiracy theories:
- That the 2022 killings in Buffalo by a white supremacist were a Democratic Party hoax
- That the deep state changed the weather during the 2024 campaign to benefit candidate Nikki Haley, who ran against Trump
- That Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating people’s household pets (a conspiracy later promoted by both Trump and his running mate JD Vance)
In addition to advising Trump on personnel, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly has asked Loomer to root out his disloyal underlings.
One FDA official fired over Loomer’s allegations of disloyalty has been restored, and a former Justice Department official is challenging his firing.
Loomer’s possible impact on a second Trump administration was predicted by Sarah Matthews, who served as press secretary in the first Trump administration before resigning after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“I like to think that during the first administration, you had people of good character who wanted to staff him and would push back on him, but in a second administration, you’re going to get the Laura Loomers of the world who are in his ear, who are the ones helping run the country,” Matthews told Jen Psaki of MSNBC.
Loomer unsuccessfully ran for public office twice. See her articles here, and her film on the immigration “invasion” is here. Her podcast, Loomer Unleashed, streams weekly on Rumble.
