It would be tempting to attribute this to a non-Christian society—to multiplied desires and endless consumer options, to secularized pursuits of shallow pleasure. But Christians fare little better here, bombarded with gurus and media personalities aplenty with “One Weird Trick” to make the various pursuits of our lives click together.
