RICHMOND, Va. — Spiritual formation and making disciples is the focus of S3, Sunday School Summit 2007, to be held at the Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center, Sept. 14-15.
With the theme “Make a Difference — Change Lives,” the summit is designed to help church leaders with new outreach methods and practical ideas. Bill Alphin, Sunday school and discipleship coordinator for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, is coordinating the summit and will also lead one of the seminars.
“The heart of the summit is discipleship, and we want participants to understand that discipleship is essential to helping members grow spiritually,” Alphin said.
Among the special guest seminar leaders are Israel Galindo, Josh Hunt and Morlee Maynard. Galindo is professor of Christian education at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond and is executive director of Educational Consultants. He also serves on the faculty of the Leadership in Ministry Workshops, a clergy training program. Galindo will lead seminars on shaping spiritual formation within the church.
Josh Hunt trains adult workers and youth leaders, providing insight through his two workshops, “You Can Double Your Sunday School in Two Years” and “Ten Marks of I.N.C.R.E.B.I.B.L.E. Teachers.”
Morlee Maynard, minister coordination specialist with LifeWay Church Resources, will focus on discipleship development.
Alphin will also assist in leading the seminar “Pastors Only,” which is designed to address many of the key issues facing pastors today. According to Alphin, there are special seminars highlighting specific comeback churches and their journeys as they have come back from decline and have grown, with Sunday school playing a major role in their success.
“Through this comeback church seminar, teachers and leaders will be better equipped and gain insight into what is working in other churches,” Alphin said.
