Chowan president cuts CD.Chris White, president of Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C., has released his first instrumental CD, a collection of piano arrangements of hymns. The Spirit Soars was produced on the campus of the Baptist-affiliated school. The recording was made in the school's Turner Auditorium. Chowan music professor James Guthrie assisted with recording and editing, and Jennifer Groves of the school's graphic communication department designed the cover. White was trained in classical piano in his youth. “People have been asking me for years to produce a CD and I have finally done just that,” said the president, who frequently plays improvisations of favorite hymns. “I have come to the realization that someday I may not be able to play the piano. I would like for my grandchildren to be musically inclined and I hope this will be an inspiration to them as my grandfather was to me.” All proceeds from The Spirit Soars will be placed in an endowment fund of the Chowan University Christian Service Association to provide scholarship assistance for ministerial students.
