UNEDITED NEWS RELEASLE — RICHMOND,Va. – “Let Justice Roll” is the theme of the Ninth annual Chester Brown, Hampton Baptist Church Preaching and Worship Conference, May 21-23, at Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond.
Plenary and worship sessions will explore Christ's call to minister to “the least of these.” Through inspiring sermons, engaging stories in song, and informative small group experiences we will examine what it means to offer Christ's hospitality; to provide a place and belonging for those who are invisible in our society; to stand with those whose voices are not heard. In our calling to be followers of Christ our task is like his—“to bring good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and to let the oppressed go free.” How can those words become reality in our own congregations today?
Conference participants will have the opportunity to experience worship expressed in several different modalities: formal liturgical, Celtic, contemplative, contemporary, and emergent. Though different in form, these times of worship all offer the possibility of genuine encounter with the living God who calls us to “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly.”
Tony Campolo and Kate Campbell are featured conference leaders. Tony Campolo is the founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, an organization that develops schools and social programs in various third world countries and in cities across North America. Kate Campbell is an American folk singer/songwriter whose music is strongly influenced by her Southern heritage as a pastor's child in Mississippi.
Registration is $125.00 includes conference materials, lunch and dinner on Tuesday, May 22. For more information or to register: 804-204-1220, email [email protected], http://www.btsr.edu/preaching_worship_conference.html.
