DALLAS (ABP) — The lone survivor of a March 15 drive-by shooting in Iraq that killed four Southern Baptist mission workers is recovering well in a Dallas-area hospital, according to an International Mission Board spokesman.
Carrie Taylor McDonnall, 26, of Rowlett, Texas, was transported to Dallas from a German hospital March 20 and is listed in stable condition.
Suspected terrorists in Mosul opened fire on McDonnall, her husband and three other IMB workers who were researching possible humanitarian aid projects. Her husband, David, 29, died along with Larry Elliott, 60; and Jean Dover Elliott, 58, of Cary, N.C.; and Karen Denise Watson, 38, of Bakersfield, Calif.
Carrie McDonnall, known as Niki, was wounded in her chest, face, arms and legs, but doctors are optimistic about recovery, said Mark Kelly, an IMB spokesman. Bones in her right arm and leg that were shattered in the attack appear to be healing. She lost most of three fingers on her left hand.
She is speaking with family members who are with her at the hospital and she sent a note to her husband's funeral.
Van Payne, a family spokesman, encouraged believers to continue praying for McDonnall.
