STAFF CHANGES

Jeff Allred, to Rolesville (N.C.) Baptist Church, as minister of music and outreach.

Mike Bayly, to Gayton Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., as senior pastor, effective Nov. 1. He comes from the pastorate of Clover Hill Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.

Emily Beltram, to First Baptist Church of Des Moines, Johnston, Iowa, as minister of children, youth and families.

Mae Elise Cannon, to Churches for Middle East Peace, Washington, D.C., as executive director.

Will Clapp, to Westwood Baptist Church, Springfield, Va., as interim minister with youth.

Travis Craver, to Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, as director of chapel and spiritual formations. Previously he was youth minister at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.

Sean Gallagher, to First Baptist Church, Fairmont, N.C., as pastor.

Gary Gutknech, now serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Maquoket, Iowa.

Karen Hargett, now serving as pastor of Freedom Baptist Church, Waveland, Ind.

Robert “Bob” Rawlins, now serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Goodland, Ind.

Marcia Shaffer, to First Baptist Church, Punxsutawney, Pa., as interim pastor.

Jerry Springston, to First Baptist Church, Davenport, Iowa, as interim pastor.

Richard Stevens, to First Baptist Church, Stoneville, N.C., as pastor.

Devin Walters, to First Baptist Church, Jefferson, Iowa, as pastor.

Todd Whitmer, to Spring Grove Baptist Church, Harrisburg, Pa., as associate pastor.

Chris Wilson, to First Baptist Church, Wilson, N.C., as minister of youth.

RETIREMENTS

Craig Anglin, retiring as pastor of First Baptist Church, Davenport, Iowa.

Warren Clark, retiring as executive director of Churches for Middle East Peace, Washington, D.C.

Barbara Hulsing, retiring as pastor of Good Shepherd Community of Faith Church, Buffalo, N.Y.

Dennis Stamey, retiring as pastor of Biltmore Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va.

Orville Terry, retiring as pastor of First Baptist Church, Lorimor, Iowa.

Tom and Nancy Wheeler, retiring as pastors of First Baptist Church, Atlantic, Iowa. 

ORDINATIONS

Carolyn Dugan, ordained to ministry on Aug 29 by The Federated Church of Green Lake, Wis. She is program director of the American Baptist Churches of Wisconsin’s Camp Tamarack.

Josh Godwin, ordained to ministry on Aug. 20 by Center Baptist Church, Wade, N.C. He is minister of youth and recreation at Knollwood Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C.

John Thornton, ordained to ministry on Aug. 14 by First Baptist Church, Greensboro, N.C. 

DEATHS

Thomas H. Conley, 79, died Aug. 25 in Atlanta, Ga. He served as a Baptist minister in Kentucky, Maryland and Atlanta until 1991. He then was confirmed an Episcopalian at The Cathedral of St. Phillip. He was ordained to the Diaconate, and then the Priesthood in 1995. That year he was called to be the Canon Pastor of The Cathedral of St. Phillip. In 2000 he and T. Albert Davis founded The Florence McDonnell Cathedral Counseling and Spiritual Life Center in Atlanta. In 2010 the center was renamed The Thomas H. Conley Center for Care, Counseling and Psychotherapy. He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Scott and Sean; and four grandchildren.

Robert Marsh Phillips, 76, died Aug. 28 in Chapel Hill, N.C. He found his calling in campus ministry and lived it out in North Carolina with a 34-year career at UNC-Chapel Hill. He worked ecumenically as a Baptist and held yearly hospitality events for international students. He was a devoted member of Olin T. Binkley Baptist Church. He is survived by is wife, Anne; and stepchildren, Sherilyn Moyer, Susan Chernew and David Moyer.

Dennis Adams, 30 years of ministry at First Baptist Church, Newport News, Va. He currently serves as associate pastor, music and young adults.

Laura Mayo, 10 years as associate pastor of Covenant Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.

Betty Robertson, 15 years as pianist at Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.

Marlin Yoder, 5 years as church administrator at Knollwood Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C.
