NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Clinch Valley, Powell River and Wise Baptist associations, and the Virginia Baptist Mission Board are emphasizing missions projects in the Lee, Scott and Wise counties of Southwest Virginia.
Tony and Jan Johnson are serving as Virginia Baptist Venturers for the two-year partnership to coordinate volunteers who will assist local churches reach their communities for Christ.
A former nursing facility in Nickelsville, Va., is being renovated to serve as a volunteer housing facility with room to accommodate 56 volunteers coming to the area for ministry.
A mission team from Salem Baptist Church in Sparta, Va., participated in the partnership on the weekend of March 12-13, providing bedding for the missions camp. They disassembled the existing beds which were given to the Powell River association and will be sent to a children’s home in Belize. And they assembled 56 bunk beds and mattresses for the new facility.
Several construction and clean-up crews from First Baptist Church in Nickelsville have been involved in projects on the site including installing a six-site campground directly behind the missions camp with electric, water and sewage hook-ups for workers coming in travel trailers.
Associations and churches in this area will request volunteers for projects such as construction, social ministry, backyard Bible clubs, outreach and other types of ministry.
