BGAV REPORTS: Committee on Boards and Committees

NewsJim White  |  December 16, 2009

The committee on boards and committees is assigned the mission of bringing to the association nominees for boards of partnering agencies, schools and institutions, and for the standing committees of the association. We are guided in this task by two concerns. We are committed to call forth persons with superior gifts and experience suited to the mission of the respective offices, and we also strive to achieve a balance by taking into account gender, geography, church size, denominational affiliation and designation as lay or clergy.

In order to achieve both goals we are reliant on the advice and input of many Baptists from around the state to identify talented and gifted Virginia Baptists. We were aided by the input of heads of agencies, schools and institutions, who suggested persons with demonstrated interest and commitment combined with abilities needed on their board. We also solicited suggestions from directors of missions, local associations, ministers and all Virginia Baptists through the Mission Board mail-outs and the Religious Herald. We are grateful for all who have helped us in this work of identifying nominees.

In the interest of further expanding opportunities for input from Baptists at large, we are asking messengers to offer suggestions for 2010. Please take the opportunity to fill out the form, which will appear in the Religious Herald in February, and mail to the address listed on the form.

It is with gratitude for your suggestions combined with deliberation and prayer that we bring to you the names of the dedicated Virginia Baptists listed in this report for election to the boards of agencies, institutions and schools, and to service on the standing committees of our association. We ask the messengers of the 2009 Baptist General Association of Virginia annual meeting to elect these persons and to give them the support of your prayers and cooperation.
