Recent McAfee School of Theology graduate Charles Watson Jr. has been named education and outreach specialist for the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty. He began work July 8.
“Charles brings a unique skill set to the Baptist Joint Committee,” said BJC Executive Director Brent Walker. “His work will be focused on expanding the base of support for religious liberty and engaging the next generation of advocates.”
A native of Millen, Ga., Watson previously worked as children’s director at Buckhead Baptist Church in Atlanta and served as a hospice chaplain. He is a decorated veteran of the United States Air Force and a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship-endorsed chaplain.
Founded in 1936, the BJC lays claim to being the only organization in Washington, D.C., devoted solely to issues surrounding the separation of church and state. It works on behalf of 15 Baptist bodies in the United States by filing briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court, lobbying Congress and the White House and education programs in Baptist life and the culture at large.
