DIDCOT, England (ABP) — Officials have confirmed the death of a 24-year-old aid worker affiliated with the British Baptist missions agency BMS World Mission in Afghanistan. Foul play is not suspected in the death.
Fay Martin, who hailed from Surrey, England, was found dead Jan. 17 on a partner agency’s property in Kabul, according to a BMS press release. She had worked in the country since October 2008 and just returned to Afghanistan earlier that day to renew her work after a routine furlough in the United Kingdom.
“At this stage, we believe no third party was involved in Fay's death,” the press release said. “However, the appropriate authorities in Afghanistan are aware of Fay's death, are carrying out normal investigations and will advise us in due course.”
Martin’s work was concentrated in northwestern Pakistan, where she assessed agricultural needs as part of development work with a BMS partner agency.
BMS General Director David Kerrigan said of Martin, “She was a hugely talented young woman, whose total commitment to improving the quality of life for some of the poorest people in Afghanistan was inspirational. Our thoughts and prayers are with Fay's family, friends and colleagues at this time.”
