ATLANTA (ABP) — The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship is providing worship resources for churches to use in remembering those affected by destructive tsunamis in Asia.
The resources, compiled by CBF's initiative for congregational life, are available on the Fellowship's website, www.thefellowship.info.
Daniel Vestal, CBF coordinator, issued a call Dec. 30 for Christians — particularly in CBF churches and partner ministries — to set aside Jan. 9 or another Sunday “as a day of intercession, mourning, and reflection;” to pray for tsunami victims and relief workers; to seek “generous government assistance”; and to contribute to the relief efforts.
Resources include sample orders of service, a sermon, a devotional and hymns written in response to the disaster. Also included are a guide for praying through questions about the disaster, advice on how to handle the crisis with children, two literary responses and a listing of additional worship resources, websites and books.
The Atlanta-based CBF, like most denominational groups, is also collecting disaster-relief funds and arranging response teams.
