O R D I N A T I O N S

Ruth Clowater, a member of Beaver Dam Church, Troy, and a student at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, was ordained to the gospel ministry on Dec. 5 by the church. She will begin serving as a full-time missionary to Costa Rica in January 2005.

Spencer Dillard, minister of youth and children, at Shalom Church, Mechanicsville, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Dec. 5.

Randy Secrist, pastor of Elon Church, Ruther Glen, will be ordained to the gospel ministry on Jan. 9 by Elon Church and Grace Community Church, Richmond.

Melanie K. Storie, minister of childhood education at Grandin Court Church, Roanoke, was ordained to the gospel ministry on Nov. 28 by the church.

C H U R C H • N E W S

The singles ministry of Bon Air Church, Richmond, will host the Agapé Café, a coffeehouse for singles, on Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Chris Adams will present stories in song.

D E A T H

Virginia Baptist pastor Fred A. King Jr. died Dec. 14 in Poquoson at the age of 70. He had retired as senior pastor of Tabernacle Church, Newport News, in 1999 after serving there for 16 years. Since that time he served several interim pastorates including Ivy Memorial Church in Newport News, where he was interim pastor at the time of his death. King had served as a former moderator of Peninsula Association. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Davis King; a daughter, Tracy K. Mastaler; three sons, G. Scott, Brian S. and Todd B. King; his mother, Elsie S. King; and five grandchildren. A service of celebration was held Dec. 17 at Ivy Memorial Church. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Park.

P E O P L E

Tommy Deal, who for 11 years was minister of education and administration at Mount Hermon Church in Danville, has been hired as associate coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida. He currrently is director of operations and volunteers for Christian Service Center for Central Florida, a non-profit social-service agency. His wife, Susan, formerly minister of music at Mount Hermon Church is minister of music at College Park Baptist Church in Orlando, Fla.
