New staff members at Bethel Church, Midlothian: Karen Powell as children's coordinator; Sharon Laslie as music director and Martha Tanner as weekday preschool director.

Jim Mathews, to Villa Heights Church, Roanoke, as interim music minister.

Kely G. Hatley, resigning as minister of music at First Church, Woodbridge.

Jennifer Smith, resigning as minister of children and youth at County Line Church, Ruther Glen.

Cathy Swaim, resigning as minister of music at Burrows Memorial Church, Norfolk.

Church News

Dan River Church, Halifax, hosted a communitywide women's retreat on Sept. 24. Michelle Stevens, a member of Aaron's Creek Church, led the retreat in which 17 churches were represented.

Missions

Paul William Vosteen Sr. and his wife, Marguerite Frances, were appointed as missionaries to Western Europe by the International Mission Board on Sept. 13. Paul will be involved in communication/media ministry. Marguerite, a native of Richmond, will serve in community and home outreach. They are members of Derbyshire Church, Richmond.

Ordinations

Nathan Lee Taylor was ordained to the gospel ministry by Tabernacle Church, Richmond on Oct. 9.

Lonnie Hylton, pastor of Reed Island Springs Church, Ararat, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Oct. 23.
